1st Annual New River Festival

The New River Gorge National River was established over 30 years ago (1978) and encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along 53 miles of the New River from Bluestone Dam to Haw's Nest Lake.

The National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) announces the first ever New River Festival, an event to benefit the New River Clean Water Alliance, which is working to clean up the lower New River and its tributaries.

Located in West Virginia, the New River is one of the oldest rivers on Earth and has carved and continues to carve, the deepest and longest river gorge in the Appalachian Mountains. It is a top destination for white-water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking and wildlife viewing.

The event is set to take place from Friday, August 10th – Sunday, August, 12th and will feature a Friday night film festival, live music on Saturday, a rafting trip down the New River on Sunday, a puppet parade, field trips and more.

Interested parties can register online, the cost is $10 for an individual and $15 for a family. Attendees also have the option to become a ''Friend of Clean Water'' for $20, which includes festival registration as well as updates and information regarding progress of the New River Clean Water Alliance. All admission prices include festival registration and camping.
