Reducing Greenhouse Gases in NYC

Becoming more energy efficient is always a worthy goal, especially when it means lowering emissions. PlaNYC set a goal of achieving a 30 percent reduction in New York City’s annual greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2030. Acknowledging that nearly 80 percent of the citywide emissions result from the energy used in buildings, city officials have set out to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings.

In 2008, New York City began leading by example by producing a Long-Term Plan to Reduce Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Muncipal Buildings and Operations. This increased the energy efficiency of dozens of city buildings and worked with institutions like universities and theaters to address their energy consumption as well. – Courtesy New York City Government
