The Purdue University graduate has been with Profile Products for seven years, serving as an industry and corporate consultant for major league baseball and National Football League groundskeepers on infield and turf soil issues.






Russ Thompson


Horticulturalist Russ Thompson received the 2003 Bill Tomiyasu Memorial Award from Nevada Cooperative Extension. Thompson is a horticultural specialist for Nevada's Clark County Parks and Community Services and has worked for Clark County for 25 years.

The World Waterpark Association has appointed two new positions. Mary Jane Brewer is the director of park member development. Brewer holds a bachelor of science degree in education, with an emphasis on recreation administration, and an MS in education, with an emphasis in exercise physiology and community health; both degrees from the University of Kansas. Gina B. Kellogg is the director of communications. Kellogg has a bachelor of science degree in journalism and a bachelor of arts degree in English, both from the University of Kansas.






Dwane Baumgardner


Landscape Forms, a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of outdoor commercial furniture and accessories, has added Dwane Baumgardner, former president of Magna Donnelly, to serve on the board of directors.






Ryan Hanley


Ryan Hanley is new account manager for the direct sales division of John Deere Landscapes. Hanley graduated from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona with a degree in ornamental horticulture.






Susan Cronin-Haines


Susan Cronin-Haines is the new sales manager (southern California) for Hunter Industries, an innovator and manufacturer of irrigation products. Cronin-Haines has been affiliated with the landscape industry for nearly 20 years and has worked for The Toro Company and Richdel/GardenAmerica.






Ed Hodnett


J. Edward "Ed" Hodnett, a certified golf course superintendent, is vice president of business development for Advanced Aeration Systems. Hodnett holds a bachelor of science degree in agronomy/turf management from Texas A&M University.

Award winners in Hunter Industries Marketing Excellence Awards include: Tom David, marketing director, Horizon of Phoenix, Arizona; Bryce Bousquet, vice president, Reams Sprinkler Supply of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Bob Fragala, owner, Stateline Irrigation Supply of Tyngsboro, Mass.

Bayer Environmental Science will be a sponsor for the Sports Turf Managers Association (S.T.M.A.) Annual Field of the Year program in 2004. Bayer is expanding and repositioning its sales and marketing resources within Chipco Professional Products. Position changes include: Neil Cleveland, now regional sales manager, lawn care and landscape; Jim Davis now golf northern sales manager; Marc McNulty now key accounts specialist.

John Deere is the new preferred provider of grounds-care equipment for the recently renovated Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. Deere's 737 and 757 Z-Trak commercial mowers recently won the Governor's New Product Award from the Professional Engineers of North Carolina. John Deere Landscapes is opening of a new branch in Rancho Cordova, their eighth location in California.

Jeff Lavalley is the grand prize-winner of more than 40,000 in outdoor power equipment from Husqvarna's "Feel the Power" Landscaper Sweepstakes. Lavalley is owner of La Sprinklers, Centerburg, Ohio.

Jim Campanella is president of the Professional Lawn Care Association of America. Campanella, co-founded The Lawn Dawg, a lawn-care company with five locations in four states. Campanella also served as president of the Massachusetts Association of Lawn Care Professionals in 2003.

Stuart Bryan is new president of Schiller-Pfeiffer, manufacturer of Little Wonder and Mantis Landscaping & Gardening Power Equipment. Bryan has an MBA from Harvard University.

James Owens is Caterpillar's new vice-chairman, chairman-elect and chief executive officer-elect. He replaces Glen Barton, who will retire this month after nearly 43 years of Caterpillar service and five years as chairman and chief executive officer.

BOMAG Americas, formerly known as Compaction America, has acquired Gilcrest's ProPaver equipment division, which includes tracked asphalt pavers, towable asphalt pavers and an asphalt distributor for heating and spraying emulsified asphalt.

Michael N. Vanatta is new international sales director and Stacie Zinn is new marketing director for Environmental Turf.

Tom Breier is Midwest sales and operations manager for Simplot Partners, a major distributor of fertilizer, turf grass seed and chemical products nationwide. Breier will be responsible for locations in Downers Grove, Ill., and Roseville, Minn.

Jarchem Industries celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The company deals in acetate salts, de-icers and other chemicals in a wide variety of markets.

Frank Petersen is general sales manager for Maruyama U.S., a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of commercial power equipment. Petersen is a graduate of North Carolina State where he studied horticulture science.

Snapper Products is positioning its commercial mowing products under the name SnapperPro. The line includes mid-mount and out-front zero-turn mowers; hydro and gear walk-behind mowers; zero-turn walk-behinds; trim mowers and grounds cruiser utility vehicles. SnapperPro is the official mower of Sea World Orlando and Nashville Opryland.
