The Erosion Control Technology Council recently elected its officers for 2004. Tim Lancaster, North American Green, Inc. was elected chairman; Deron Austin, SI Geosolutions, was elected vice chairman; and Mark Myrowich,, was elected treasurer. Tony Johnson, American Excelsior Co. and Kevin Spittle, Profile Products LLC were named at-large board members. Laurie Honningford continues as executive director.

Russ Thompson

Horticulturalist Russ Thompson received the 2003 Bill Tomiyasu Memorial Award from Nevada Cooperative Extension. Thompson is a horticultural specialist for Nevada’s Clark County Parks and Community Services and has worked for Clark County for 25 years.

Jane Brewer

Gina B. Kellogg

The World Waterpark Association has appointed two new positions. Mary Jane Brewer is the director of park member development. Brewer holds a bachelor of science degree in education, with an emphasis on recreation administration, and a MS degree in education, with an emphasis in exercise physiology and community health; both degrees from the University of Kansas. Gina B. Kellogg is the director of communications. Kellogg has a bachelor of science degree in journalism and a bachelor of arts degree in English, both from the University of Kansas.

The Massachusetts Horticultural Society announces Tom Strangfeld as its new director. Strangfeld brings an impressive combination of skills and experience to his new position; he was director of development at Weston Nurseries for 28 years where he created the master design plan for their 75-acre site. Strangfeld has also designed exhibits at Weston Nurseries that earned four President Cup trophies and other awards.

The American Society of Consulting Arborists announces its 2004 board of directors. Tim Johnson is president, William de Vos is vice president, Steven Geist is treasurer, Russell Carlson is the immediate past president.

April Hobbs

April Hobbs is the member marketing and communications manager of The Professional Lawn Care Association of America. Hobbs holds a degree in consumer economics and business administration from the University of Georgia.

The U.S. Green Building Council has accepted a new member, the Durrant Group, Inc., an engineering, architecture and project delivery firm.

Marius Scholtz, owner of Legal Media Solutions, has been certified by the American Guild of Videographers. Legal Media Solutions captures video footage of construction site conditions, which can be used as legal evidence in case of litigation.

The Sports Turf Management Association announces a new South Carolina Chapter. Chapter Officers are: Alan Wilson, president; Bruce Suddeth, president-elect; Bruce Viehman, commercial vice president; and Mike Burgess, secretary-treasurer. Executive Director is Dr. Trent Hale, a Research and Extension Turfgrass Specialist in the Department of Horticulture for Clemson University.

Ed Hodnett

Advanced Aeration Systems has appointed J. Edward “Ed” Hodnett/z as vice president of business development, Hodnett is a certified golf course superintendent and holds a bachelor of science degree in agronomy/turf management from Texas A&M University.

Environmental Turf has two additions. Michael N. Vanatta is the new international sales director and Stacie Zinn is the marketing director.

Jarchem Industries celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Jarchem deals in acetate salts, de-icers and other chemicals in a wide variety of markets.

Rebecca Dobner

Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting has added Rebecca Dobner to its marketing staff. Prior to joining Vista, Dobner worked in marketing with Focus Industries, Inc. of Lake Forest, Calif.

Dwane Baumgardner

Landscape Forms, a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of outdoor commercial furniture and accessories, has added Dwane Baumgardner, former president of Magna Donnelly, to serve on the company’s Board of Directors.

John Deere is the new preferred provider of grounds-care equipment for the recently renovated Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill. Deere’s 737 and 757 Z-Trak commercial mowers recently won the Governor’s New Product Award from the Professional Engineers of North Carolina. John Deere Landscapes is opening of a new branch in Rancho Cordova, their eighth location in California.

Bryan Gooch

Bayer Environmental Science recently named Bryan Gooch as business manager, insecticides. His responsibilities include product and project management and business team leadership for many Bayer turf and ornamental insecticide products.

ConAgra Foods, Inc., is selling United Agri Products its U.S. and Canadian crop, and non-crop inputs business to Apollo Management, L.P. Included are the distribution businesses of United Horticultural Supply, U.A.P. Timberland and York Distributors, which serve the professional turf and ornamental, structural pest control and vegetation management/forestry industries.

Susan Cronin-Haines

Susan Cronin-Haines is the new sales manager (southern California) for Hunter Industries, an innovator and manufacturer of irrigation products. Cronin-Haines has been affiliated with the landscape industry for nearly 20 years and has worked for The Toro Company and Richdel/GardenAmerica.

Blake Sales Associates, who carry products for pools and spas, are the new sales representatives for Kaf-flex, including all twelve states in Kaf-flex’s western territory. Kaf-flex designs, manufacturers and markets equipment for pool/spa operation and maintenance as well as irrigation and marine equipment.

Rich Daly is Midwest regional sales manager for Otterbine Barebo Inc., a manufacturer of aerators and fountains.

BOMAG Americas, formerly known as Compaction America, has acquired Gilcrest’s ProPaver equipment division, which includes tracked asphalt pavers, towable asphalt pavers and an asphalt distributor for heating and spraying emulsified asphalt.
