SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The main manufacturing facility at Hunter Industries in San Marcos, Calif., was the target of arson fires in the early morning hours of Oct. 26. Damage from the fires was estimated at $5 million. Units from the FBI and ATF are investigating the cause of the blazes, which were apparently started by combustible materials in five separate areas throughout the manufacturing plant. Early assessments have indicated fire damage to the company's molding department and water damage to administrative offices. "As can be imagined, this is a terrible blow to the company and the Hunter family," Jeff Carowitz, Hunter vice president of marketing, said. "Our major concern is for our employees. Thankfully, no one was injured and we are working to get our manufacturing staff members back on the job as soon as possible." Carowitz noted that Hunter has multiple manufacturing sites and can transfer production capabilities to these facilities in Cary, N.C., and Tijuana, Mexico.
