The Arizona chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recently picked its educator of the year and the honor went to assistant professor and landscape architect Dr. Paul Coseo from Arizona State University (ASU).

In his fifth year of teaching at ASU, Dr. Coseo was lauded for his involvement in the community and his focus on making "desert adapted" design choices aimed at working with the Sonoran Desert, and not against it.

As found in an ASU press release, Dr. Coseo states that his main areas of focus are "ecosystems and sustainable design, landscape architecture and green urbanism."

Valerie Ahyong, the public awareness chair for the Arizona chapter, was quoted as having stated, "I really thought he was well deserving of [the award], especially with what he's done for the landscape industry and the community education outreach that he does." Ahyong went on to say that "He's very passionate about what he does and his students and what he's teaching," she said. "It's not every day that you come across that."

Dr. Coseo's research is currently focused on the use of green roofs and their effectiveness in hot arid places, such as Arizona. You can read more about Dr. Coseo over on the ASU website here: https://tinyurl.com/y3hadxgm.
