Honored with Two Twin Cities awards

Richard Murphy Jr., FASLA, president/CEO of Murphy Warehouse Co., has been an adjunct professor of landscape architecture at the University of Minnesota College of Design for more than 25 years. His green practices at his 14 facilities include native prairie plantings, solar paneled roofs, switching to LEDs and earning LEED Gold and Energy Star certifications.


Richard Murphy Jr., FASLA, president and CEO of Murphy Warehouse Co., was named to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's inaugural list of Most Admired CEOs, as well as Pollen Midwest and AARP Minnesota's first "50 Over 50" leaders. Both awards recognize Murphy for growing his fourth-generation family business, serving as an industry leader, and embracing environmental sustainability as a smart business strategy.

The 50 Over 50 award reads, in part: "A true renaissance man, lifelong learner Richard Murphy Jr., 64, has ... enjoyed multiple careers - as a landscape architect, teacher, business executive, amateur photographer, mentor, and industry and community leader..."

The family-owned company (www.murphywarehouse.com) began in 1904 with two horses and a wagon. The company now has 2.8 million sq. ft. of bulk, rack and food grade storage and employ about 200 people in Minnesota and Missouri.
