NHLA Helps Develop New Pesticide Applicators Exam
Prep and Exam Now Available in Spanish
The National Hispanic Landscape Alliance (NHLA) in partnership with the North Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association, North Carolina State University, and the University of Florida, will be offering a Pesticide Applicators Licensing preparatory course and exam, administered in Spanish, during Green and Growin' 2017. The three-day course will run from Jan. 16-18.
In 2016, the NHLA worked with a bilingual extension agent at the University of Florida to translate the test prep offered by North Carolina State University in English to Spanish, and added a session on test-taking skills.
"We delight in working with state and regional organizations to help them better serve Hispanics working in their areas and to increase the number of Hispanics attending their conferences and expos," said Ralph Egües, executive director of the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance. "During the past four years, we have helped the NCNLA include educational seminars in Spanish at Green and Growin. Through these relationships we discovered that while the state offered the pesticide applicator exams in Spanish, there were no Spanish-speaking exam proctors and no test prep in Spanish was being offered."
The cost for the Pesticide Applicators Licensing prep is $150 for members of the NHLA or NCLA, and $200 for non-members. There are additional costs of $50 and $20 for category exams. Study materials will also be included in the final cost. Exams will be administered by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
