Secretary John Laird of the California Department of Natural Resources will give the keynote address for the 2015 Drought Summit on Nov. 13 at the Long Beach Convention Center. The summit is being held in conjunction with the 2015 Irrigation Show & Education Conference in Long Beach, Calif.
IA's Drought Summit will highlight the current drought facing the western United States and address how the irrigation industry is an integral part to both mitigating the effects of the current drought and providing sustainable solutions for the future.
"We are excited to have Secretary Laird join us for this unique event," said John Farner, IA's government and public affairs director. "Whenever drought occurs, a spotlight shines on our industry. This is our chance to discuss real-world solutions that apply not only to what we are seeing in the West but also to the rest of the world."
Secretary Laird provides leadership and administrative oversight to both the Department of Water Resources and the California Water Commission. Climate change adaptation, water conservation and supply reliability, and farmland conservation are among his top priorities.
"The irrigation industry has the expertise and resources to meet the challenges we face daily," continued Farner. "This year's Drought Summit is an excellent opportunity for our industry to showcase its expertise and drive to help solve our water and productivity issues."
