Ford Park: Vail, Colorado

This project required 37 pedestrian pole lighting assemblies designed and manufactured by ANP Lighting. The 4-inch dia. cast aluminum light poles (4S14) are 14 feet tall seated on low-profile decorative cast aluminum bases (CB1201). The bases and arms are stock, but modified to integrate wireless controls. The 1 1/4 -inch aluminum pipe arms (PA321-1) support the cast aluminum round, fully shaded luminaires (LA1943) lamped with 40-watt Sansi LEDs for energy efficiency and appropriate safety lighting levels. The color temperature is 5,000K (bluish white). The powder coating is architectural bronze.

Shedding Light on History

At the Governor Thomas Bennett House in Charleston, S.C., the existing outdoor lighting system was not adequately capturing the splendor of the extensive garden, and needed a restoration. Moonlighting Landscape Lighting was contracted to design and install a new system. The Charleston company used some of the existing fixtures, added others, and outfitted them all with energy-efficient and maintenance-reducing LED lamps. Here, six crape myrtle trees are uplit by four existing fixtures between the trees and one fixture directly in the middle, with the intent of lighting the canopy as a whole. The front two crape myrtles and the rear two crape myrtles are also downlit. The up lights have Dauer 5-watt, 40-degree-spread lamps. The down lights are Vista fixtures with 4-watt, 60-degree-spread lamps.

Candlelight Design

The owners of this Calabasas, Calif., home asked Nick Williams to design their outdoor landscape, which includes an outdoor kitchen/TV room, landscaped play areas for children, hidden garden nooks and a swimming pool/spa with a cascade, fire pit and boulder treatments. The garden lighting is subdued, candle path fixtures with 13-watt SC Bay halogen lamps, which reflects nicely off the pool's waters.
