New Home Sales Rate Improves in April
Sales of new homes rose in April to the second highest level since the summer of 2008, while the median price for a new home also hit a record high. Home price increases and a shortage of new and previously owned homes are paving the way for the construction and sale of new residences.

Interior Dept. Grants $20.8M for Water Reclamation Projects

DOI grant recipients include the Southern Nevada Water Authority, which will receive $300,000 to expand an existing landscape rebate program that provides financial incentives for residential property owners to replace turf with water efficient landscaping. The project will save approximately 448 acre-feet per year, and water conserved will contribute to existing water banks in California, Arizona and southern Nevada.

Ordinance Says Yes to Less Landscape
While most community ordinances tend to mandate more landscaping, the Baxter, Minnesota City Council voted last month to loosen landscape requirements for new additions to commercial properties that comprise five percent or less of the total square footage.
