Success Stories: Sustainable Landscapes - 1.5 CEU's - ISA, APLD, PLANET Landscape Industry Certified

Presented by: Lawrence Ziese, owner of Ashcrow Landscape Design and Barbara Paul, owner of Barbara Paul Landscape Design
Thursday, October 13 - 1:00 - 2:30 PM

Course Description:

This workshop features the success stories of landscape professionals from Southern California who will showcase their work involving designing sustainable, water-efficient landscapes and revamping non-sustainable landscapes. They will discuss the recommended steps to take to work with clients successfully and how to identify areas within individual landscapes where maximum return on redesigns and retrofits often occur.

Biography:

Lawrence Ziese holds a Bachelors of Landscape Architecture from Cal Poly, Pomona where his thesis project - a visionary solar-powered artist colony and constructed wetlands alongside the Los Angeles River - gained recognition in the Green Building council. The project was also entered into the United States Building Council,s contest, competing against architects and design teams from all over the world. Perhaps his highest honor yet, has been being selected by the horticultural faculty at his alma mater to design the grounds adjacent to the campus, Farm Store. Lawrence has been a featured expert on HGTV, various radio shows, has delivered numerous speeches about sustainable landscaping to local gardening groups and botanical gardens. He volunteers for various organizations that promote local green community efforts, sustainable construction, and education. He also frequently works pro bono for many local schools and non profits, creating whimsical gardens for children and adults to learn more about gardening and nature.

Barbara has been developing sustainable landscapes for southern California gardens since 1999. She studied Landscape Architecture at UC Irvine and UCLA. She holds a certificate in Ornamental Horticulture from Orange Coast College and sits on the board of the Southern California Branch of the Mediterranean Garden Society. She is an active member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers. She has twice been a featured Designer on HGTV's "Landscapers' Challenge" and is currently consulting with Long Beach Water Department customers who want to develop water-wise gardens. She is also teaching classes for the Long Beach Water Department focusing on water saving landscape design for the homeowner.
