The NRPA is reporting on the success of their ongoing initiative that provides children with access to healthy foods and outdoor physical activity.

The National Recreation and Parks Association and its members have been ensuring children have access to physical activity and proper nutrition through the Commit to Health Campaign.

Since 2014, the NRPA has partnered with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and Partnership for a Healthier America. Now 47 states have sites that are part of Commit to Health.

Approximately 1,650 parks and recreation sites have registered as part of the program. In the first four years of the campaign nearly 300,000 students have been reached.

The program encourages multiple healthy habits including:
• Family engagement
• Connecting health and nature
• Quick physical activity breaks
• Adopting policy and documenting your health and wellness success
• Providing meals and snacks through the federal nutrition programs
