Course Description:

With the current state of water restrictions our session will provide attendees tips and guidance on how to manage tree health under drought conditions.

Trees should not be forgotten during these drought restrictions. This session will provide attendees tips and guidance on how to manage tree health under drought conditions.

A few learning outcomes from this presentation include:
1. A clear understanding of the relationship between water and trees.
2. A clear understanding of the symptoms and signs of drought stress on trees.
3. A clear understanding of what trees do to adapt to drought conditions.
4. A clear understanding of steps to avoiding tree fatalities during drought conditions.

Attendees will be exposed to tools for managing water including the California Irrigation Management information System (CIMIS) and the Water Use Classification of Landscape Species (WUCOLS).

This session will help parks and tree managers to be more effective at identifying the conditions that lead to tree fatalities due to drought. Attendees will take a proactive plan back to their jobs to be able secure the tree assets in their communities and still be compliant with the drought restrictions.

A portion of this presentation dispels the myth of how water is wasted on landscapes including some cutting edge statistics on how water is used in California. This will be useful data for any park and or landscape manager struggling with the restrictions being imposed on them.

Attendees will be asked about their local water restrictions and how it has been effecting their ability to keep trees and landscape thriving.

Session Content/Structure: The presentation is a combination of PowerPoint included photographic samples with an imbedded video clip intermixed.
